Obituary for John Smith
John Alex Smith, 68 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at his home in Warrensburg. He was born Wednesday, December 2, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late George Smith and the late Agnes Pater (Kaja).
He graduated from Blackduck High School in Blackduck, Minnesota. He served as a PV2 in the Army from 1970 until 1972. John worked in construction, owing his own siding and window company.
Surviving are three sons, Carl Smith, Daniel Smith and Tyler Smith; three daughters, Lisa Smith, Rachel Stevens and Julie Smith; five sisters, Gayle (Norman) Pater, Debra Watkins, Kathy (Bob) Pond, April (Bill) Cunningham, Laura Pater (Kevin Provo). He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bridget Snider, Carolyn Joy Barnes; two brother-in-laws, Duane Watkins, Gary Snider; and grandson, Shawn Michael Smith.
Military honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the Missouri Veterans Chapel. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium wall.

Joy Barnes, 59, of Olive Branch, MS passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes Smith; and a sister, Bridget Snider. She is survived by her husband, Greg Barnes; daughter, Autumn Dominski(Eric Sides); daughter, Alexandria Dominski; son, Jackson Dominski(Jessica Hatley); sisters: Gayle Pater(Norman) of Greenbrier, TN; Debra Watkins of Bemidji, MN; Kathy Pond(Bob) of Pinewood, MN; April Cunningham(Bill) of Greybull, WY; and Laura Pater(Kevin Provo) of Maple Lake, MN; and brother, John Smith of Blue Springs, MO. Mrs. Barnes worked as court reporter for Shelby County. She liked animals, especially her dog, George and cardinals. In her free time she enjoyed going to the zoo or traveling to Gatlinburg with her husband, Greg. The family will hold a memorial gathering at a later time.
